Stairs

Using acrylic paint on a 30”x34” canvas, a depiction of stairs is painted in various tones of pink, purple, and blue. The composition of the painting focuses on a dark purple staircase which is positioned to the right of the canvas. The staircase is engulfed by light pink walls and pillars. To the left of the staircase a soft light pink railing is depicted. This railing is a wall like structure following the same pattern structure as the purple stairs. This hand railing acts as a divider for the composition as it extends from the bottom of the canvas to the top out of the picture plane. Featured on the other side of the railing adjacent to the purple stairs, there are forms of architecture that extend out from the canvas making their representation difficult to understand. These forms are created using light shades of purple and blue. The painting is made up of sharp lines, and delicate blending throughout. The delicate blending leaves the canvas to have a smooth quality, allowing colour placement and line work to make up the imagery. There is a tonality throughout the work that represents a light source of the piece, allowing each shape to have a clear and defined space on the canvas.
